The Maritime Education and Training Academy (AMET), founded in 1993, is a maritime education academy located in Chennai , Tamil Nadu. It is a technology-oriented institution for higher education, which was deemed to be a university under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. AMET Admission Process

Academy of Maritime Education and Training, also known as AMET, is a private college founded in 1993, located in Kanathur, Tamil Nadu. The courses offered are at UG, PG and doctoral level, which are approved by the Directorate-General for Shipping.

  • AMET has a student intake of 3000, through which students can apply online and offline.
  • Selection of all students in UG courses is by entrance test followed by a personal interview.
  • Selection to BE Naval Architecture shall be carried out by Entry Review or JEE Mains / Advance followed by a personal interview.
  • Students of BE Naval Architecture can opt for a twinning programme offered in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde Glasgow, UK, after completing their first three-year research.
  • BBA students can opt for a twinning programme offered in partnership with the University of Plymouth, UK.
  • Selection of BSc ( Hons) in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence is through the AMET Standard Entry Exam.
  • Students of BSc ( Hons) in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science can opt for a twinning programme with the Department of Computer Science, EDGE HILL University, UK.

How to apply?

  • Get in-person application forms for the entrance exam or download from the website. The fee for the application is INR 1000). Fill out all the information and include approved photocopies of the appropriate certificates. Send your application online or submit your application by post to the AMET University Admin Office.
  • The entry test is performed online. Short-listed candidates are called for Medical Screening and Personal Interview
  • Applicants will be selected on the Rank list and will have to pay the admission fee within 15 days of their selection.

Eligibility for BSc Nautical Science and BE Marine Engineering

Passed 10 + 2 or its equivalent with a minimum of 60 per cent combined in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry along with 50 per cent marks in English.

Eligibility for other courses

Passed 10 + 2 or its equivalent with a minimum mark of 50 per cent for OC and 45 per cent for other aggregates for Maths, Physics and Chemistry by the recognised Board of Directors.

The Academy of Maritime Education and Training is also known as AMET as Maersk, Shell, Selandia, Fleet, DHL, Transworld, Beta and HCL are the top recruitment companies on the official website. The University has a placement department that coordinates with companies for on-campus placement and monitors the success of students who have passed out.

For Marine Engineering, the placement starts in the first year. Maersk Line is a full-time recruiter from this college. Most multinational corporations include CHEVRON, SEA Squad, Nice WOOD, SHELL, which are shipping giants.

Scholarship 1

Sheree Janakiraman Scholarship

AMET University is providing fee discounts to students from economically backward families who are not affordable to pay the fees on a regular basis. Whenever the request for concession has been issued from the student, it shall be sent to the Vice-Chancellor for consideration. After evaluating the application on a case-by-case basis, the application shall be sent to the committee for approval and the qualified number shall be punished. Students who merit financial assistance from the management are awarded this scholarship on behalf of Shree Janakiraman.

Well-deserved student scholarship

The University grants a Meritorious Student Scholarship to outstanding students who have received more than 90 per cent of the marks in their Higher Secondary Examination. The qualified students will receive 15% of the Tuition fee as a discount fee for all four / three years of the course. The applications are confirmed and sent to the Vice-Chancellor. Both appeals are made to the Committee for Recommendations and Sanctions.

AMET Faculty

AMET University Faculty under the leadership of Chancellor Dr. J. Ramachandran. The College has 190 + faculty members who hold or pursue their Ph.D. degree in their respective fields of expertise and have worked in their field for a long time. The faculty members carried out 20 consulting projects, 39 research projects funded and 2 IPR projects in the academic year 2023-24.
