Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Entrance Exam is conducted by Jamia Millia Islamia’s body. It is a national-level entrance exam that is conducted annually in offline mode at various exam centers. The entrance exam is conducted for admission in various undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil, Ph.D., diploma, and certificate courses.

Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their result followed by counseling for admission in courses such as Engineering, Architecture & Planning, Hospitality & Travel, Animation, Mass Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences, Commerce as well as Teaching & Education. The result of the entrance exam is announced separately for different programs. Jamia Millia Islamia has extended the last date to apply for all programs to September 14, 2024.

JMI Entrance Exam 2024-25 Exam pattern & Syllabus :

The JMI 2024 entrance exam pattern has been explained below:

A total number of 200 questions are asked in the paper within a time limit of 3 hours or 180 minutes. The question paper will contain objective /multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with no subjective questions. There will be no negative marking for questions answered wrongly.

The entrance exam for admission in courses offered at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC) consists of 2 sections – A and B.

Section A

Based on objective type questions wherein candidates need to answer questions from topics such as:

  • National and international political issues/personalities
  • General knowledge
  • Film, television, and other media
  • Art, literature, and culture

Section B

Based on descriptive type questions.

As per the official website: “This paper comprises of essay type long answers which reflect the candidates’ critical understanding of contemporary issues and the media. This paper also evaluates candidates’ skill in visualization, story-telling, and their creative aptitude”.

Aspirants who qualify in the written exam are called for the interview and portfolio submission round.

Interview

This process of the interview takes around 10-20 minutes. Here, aspirants are judged on the basis of certain criteria such as:

  • Knowledge of contemporary political, social, cultural, and economic issues.
  • Knowledge of contemporary media
  • Knowledge of film — fiction and non-fiction.
  • General knowledge and the subjects studied at the graduation level.
  • Visualization skills and creative aptitude.
  • Overall Performance (articulation, reasoning, confidence, etc.)
  • Online work, etc.

The next round is the portfolio round.

Portfolio

The official website of AJK Mass Communication Research Centre lists on the basis of which the portfolio of applicants will be evaluated.

The portfolio carried by aspirants must include details of evidence/proof of media-related work as well as extra-curricular activities performed by the candidate post-school that is, at the college/university level such as:

  • Production work (audio/visual media-based)
  • Proof of participation in social activities (involvement with NGOs or social organizations)
  • Published work (Articles and stories etc., published in reputed journals and magazines)
  • Internship/work experience with a reputed media house
  • Participation in extracurricular activities (debating, painting, music, theatre, etc.)
  • Online work, etc.

JMI Entrance Exam 2024-25 Eligibility criteria :

JMI

The eligibility criteria for the mass communication entrance exam conducted by AJK MCRC vary from course to course.

  1. MA Mass Communication

A candidate who is a graduate in any discipline (in the 10+2+3 pattern) is eligible to apply for MA Mass Communication course admission at Jamia Millia Islamia University. Apart from this, the candidate should have secured at least 50 % marks in aggregate at the graduation level.

  1. MA (Convergent Journalism) (Self-Financed)

As stated by AJK MCRC, any candidate who is a graduate in any stream from a recognized college with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks, meets the eligibility criteria for this course admissions.

  1. PG Diploma in Journalism (Hindi Medium) (Self-Financed)

Candidates must have a graduation degree in any stream from a recognized college with a minimum of 45 % aggregate. Apart from this, aspirants should also have knowledge of the Hindi language.

  1. PG Diploma in TV Journalism (Hindi Medium) (Self-Financed)

Candidates should have completed their graduation from a recognized college (in any stream) with at least 45 % aggregate marks.

  1. PG Diploma in Broadcast Technology (Self-Financed)

A candidate who has completed his/her graduation with a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, IT, BCA, or Engineering from a recognized college is eligible to apply.

It should be noted that only aspirants who have studied Physics, as well as Mathematics in their Class XII, are eligible to apply for admissions.

  1. PG Diploma in Still Photography & Visual Communication (Self-Financed)

Candidates must have completed graduation (in any stream) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognized college.

  1. PG Diploma in Acting (Self-Financed)

Candidates must have completed their graduation in any stream from a recognized college or university.

  1. PG Diploma in Urdu Mass Media

For Urdu Mass Media course admissions, candidates should have cleared Class XII with at least 55% marks in Urdu/Persian/Arabic.

  1. BA (Hons) (Mass Media Hindi)

The candidates should have secured at least 50% aggregate marks in their Class 12.

JMI Entrance Exam 2024-25 Admission process :

It is suggested to the candidates to go through the detailed admission process before sitting for the exam. Applicants need to apply for different courses at Jamia Millia Islamia University through the online medium. For successful admission, the candidates have to apply for the entrance exam on the official portal by filling an application form, pay the application fee, and download the admit card.

Steps to fill the online Application form:

The last date to submit the online application form has been extended till 14 September 2024. Candidates can avail the form online and register themselves to the JMI Entrance Exam 2024. The address of the official website has been mentioned above.

  • To fill the JMI 2024 entrance exam application form, the candidate will first have to register themselves on the admission portal of the varsity by entering details such as Name, Date of Birth, Email ID and Mobile number, etc.
  • Once the candidate has successfully registered, the aspirant will receive a mail containing a unique code with a link to verify the email account, login ID, and password.
  • After verification of the email account, candidates can log in by entering their ID and password. As informed by the website a candidate can fill only one form for a program/group of programs. Multiple forms may lead to cancellation of candidature. Candidates are required to fill in the required details carefully.
  • The candidates have to upload their passport size photos and signature in the jpeg format and a size not more than 100 kb. The background must be white in both the cases and the signature should only be done with a black pen.
  • After the candidate has filled up the application form, candidates can pay the fee in online mode via credit card/ debit card/ net banking. This takes to the completion of the application process.

The application fee is ₹700 for :

  • Centre for Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences
  • Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics
  • Faculty of Education

And ₹500 for all other facilities or courses.

JMI Entrance Exam 2024-25 Results :

The JMI 2024 entrance exam date has not yet commenced. It is only after the exam is over, that the results will be announced on the official website of the university. Candidates will be able to view their results along with the scorecards. Qualified candidates will further have to go through selection rounds. Candidates that clear the counseling sessions will be offered their desired courses at Jamia Millia Islamia University.

Counseling:

JMI 2024 counseling is done once the JMI entrance exam results are announced. Candidates will be called for the counseling process as per their rank in the merit list. Selected candidates will have to reach the university with the required documents to complete their admission formalities on or before the date notified in the admission schedule. JMI counseling 2024 will be conducted separately for different courses on different dates.
