Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dharwad is one of the recently established IITs in the country. It is an autonomous premier institute established by the MHRD in 2016 under the leadership of IIT Bombay. The institute is currently operating from a temporary campus established within the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI). However, the Government of Karnataka has provided about 470 acre land for the construction of the permanent campus, around two-three kilometers away from the present campus.

The contemporary campus provides all the students with hostel accommodation, a well-equipped dining hall, labs, workshops, and various sports facilities. The library has more than 2,000 books, 3,000 research journals. Apart from academics, the Institute offers numerous other facilities in the form of student clubs, such as Astronomy Club, Electronics Club, Music Club, Robotics Clubs, Photography Club, etc. Additionally, the Institute Innovation Council (IIC) has been established to systematically foster the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in IIT Dharwad students.

The Institute is currently offering a total of nine courses via eight departments in the stream of Science and Technology at UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels.

Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad is a premier Science and Technology Institute that functions under IIT Bombay. The institute currently offers 3 courses including BTech, MS, and Ph.D. The admission cycle for BTech programs generally commences once the JEE Main registrations begin.

  • For admission to BTech programmes, candidates must refer to the eligibility criteria for JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
  • The Joint Seat Allocation Authority or JoSAA is responsible for the joint seat allocation process for admissions to 107 institutes including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 GFTIs.
  • Admission to the MS program is done on the basis of GATE.
  • Ph.D. aspirants are shortlisted through online screening, followed by a written test and interview.

Admissions in BTech courses offered at the Indian Institute of Technology, Dharwad (IIT Dharwad) are based on the ranks secured by candidates in JEE Advanced exam. Ranks coming in between the cut-off range are considered eligible for admission.

However, apart from BTech courses, IIT Dharwad also offers MS courses to students at the postgraduate (PG) level. Admissions in MS courses are based on GATE cutoff for IIT Dharwad.

Admission for BTech :

BTech program is for a duration of 4 years. Candidates are required to appear for JEE Main and JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA counselling in order to secure seats in the institute.

IIT Dharwad also offers Ph.D. programs in multiple specializations. Admission is done through online examination followed by personal interview.

Application Process :

The mode of application to get admission in IIT Dharwad is online, via the official application portal of the college. However, candidates must also enroll themselves at the official website of the relevant entrance examination.

BTech aspirants can fill the application form of JEE Main and JEE Advanced through the official website of NTA.

IIT Dharwad Placements :

IIT Dharwad is one of the newest IITs that started its functioning in 2016. None of its batches has graduated yet and hence, there are no stats of the placement. The placement details can be accessed only after the graduation of the first batch in 2024.

But as per the data available, more than 50-60% of the students from each course got placed. The highest salary package offered ranges between 35-40 LPA, and the average salary package offered is 9 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 5 LPA. Students start getting quite many internship opportunities from the second year onwards.

JEE Advanced Cutoff 2024 for IIT Dharwad :

IIT Dharwad cutoff 2024 will be released by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) after the announcement of the JEE Advanced result 2024. The cutoff will be released on the official website of JoSAA in the form of opening and closing ranks. The ranks will be released course-, category- and gender-wise in total seven rounds. Candidates must participate in these JoSAA counselling rounds to secure admission in their respective BTech courses.

  • BTech Computer Science & Engineering is the most popular IIT Dharwad course that has recorded the highest cutoff in the past three years as compared to all the other courses. The cutoff has only been high every year. Candidates with JEE Advanced ranks between 4500 and 5000 have a high chance of getting admission.
  • Similarly, for the Electrical Engineering course offered at IIT Dharwad, the cut-off has only gone higher. Usually, candidates with ranks in the range 7000-8500 have a chance to get admission in this course.
  • However, amid this, the cut-off for BTech Mechanical Engineering has only fallen over the past three years.

In IIT Dharwad, scholarships are offered to students under various categories like :

  • Candidates whose household income is less than ₹ 1 lakh per annum are given 100% concession in tuition fees.
