About Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) – 

The Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work was the precursor to the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), which was founded in 1936. It was given the new name Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 1944. When the Institute was designated as being Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956, the year 1964 marked a significant turning point in its history.

Since its inception, the TISS has aimed to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continuously responds to shifting social realities through the development and application of knowledge in order to build a just society that is centered on people and that upholds and defends everyone’s rights to dignity, equality, and social justice.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mission and Vision – 

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences conducts research, develops and disseminates knowledge, organises teaching programmes to support the development of qualified and dedicated professionals for practise, research, and teaching, and reaches out to the general public through extension at the local, national, regional, and international levels. All of these activities are done in accordance with the Institute’s vision and guiding principles. The TISS’s vision is to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continuously adapts to new social realities through the development and application of knowledge in order to build a just society that is centered on people and that upholds and promotes social justice, equality, and human rights for all.  

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Achievements –

The TISS has been able to continue influencing planning, policy, and programme design, stimulate critical thought, and produce people-centered interventions thanks to the synergy between teaching, research, field action, and extension. In 2009, the TISS Field Action Project Special Cell for Women and Children, which has worked on the police system’s “Violence Against Women” program/service for 25 years, reached its milestone. Currently, Special Cells have been formed in 7 States, and attempts are being made to do the same in the remaining States and Union Territories of the nation.

TISS is the primary recipient of funding from the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria for a national effort to increase the expertise of higher education institutions in HIV/AIDS counselling.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Facilities – 

Hostel :- Six hostels are located on the TISS campus: two in the Malti and Jal A.D. Naoroji Campus Annexe and four on the main campus. The hostels have enough for about 500 students. Students can use the hostel facilities if they are enrolled full-time in a Master’s, MPhil, or PhD programme. Unfortunately, hostel admission is contingent on seat availability due to the facility’s restricted capacity.

Gym :- The main campus’s TISS Gym is a two-story structure with room for a fully furnished gym as well as space for yoga. There are two very popular table tennis tables, a full-fledged indoor badminton court, and additional indoor activities like carrom. Since July 2008, Mr. Abhijit Tandel has worked with TISS as a gym instructor. The gym is furnished with two cycles, three manual and one electronic treadmills, weights and plates, leg extensions, and many other things.

Library :- There are 1,24,000 book volumes in the Sir Dorabji Tata Memorial Library’s collection, along with 1600 audiovisual items and subscriptions to over 10,298 academic print and online journals. For access to the e-Resources under the UGC-Infonet Digital Consortium, the UGC-INFLIBNET and the TISS have signed an MoU. On the first floor, there is a cutting-edge Cyber Library that is open twenty-four hours a day. There is also the option of using a study hall, which can hold 507 pupils at once.

Counseling Center:- The Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai started offering counselling services in the middle of the 1990s, and they are a part of their student support services. For students and staff at TISS, the counselling centre offers services like individual counselling and group therapy for personal growth. Six days a week, it is open, and its hours are adjusted to meet the needs of pupils. The counsellors assist the pupils with day-to-day issues while also enhancing their overall performance. The counsellors frequently provide workshops on subjects pertaining to developing the students’ capacities.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Placement – 

For the HR and Labour Relations 2022–24 batch of students, TISS Mumbai has secured a 100% summer placement rate. Additionally, the highest stipend for the 2022–24 batch at TISS Mumbai’s summer placements was INR 4 lakh for two months. In addition, the 2022–24 class received a two-month stipend of INR 2.62 lakh on average and INR 3 lakh on average during TISS Mumbai summer assignments. Top employers at TISS Mumbai’s summer placements for the 2022–24 batch included the Aditya Birla Group, Tata Steel, Aon, and Disney Star.

The TISS Mumbai placements for the HRM & LR 2020–22 batch are complete, according to prior media sources. The HRM & LR 2020-22 batch received the highest and average packages during placements in 2022, respectively, of INR 42.09 LPA and INR 23.97 LPA. The Aditya Birla Group made the most offers, with Consulting emerging as the most popular industry.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Admission –

The admissions process for all PG and doctoral-level courses at TISS Mumbai in 2023 is entirely entrance-based. Conversely, entrance to other short-term, diploma, and certificate courses is primarily dependent on interviews.

  • Admissions to several PG Courses at TISS Mumbai begin on December 14. The application deadline is January 15.
  • The CUET UG 2023 test dates have been made public by NTA. The exam will be given from May 21 to May 31.
